Luther’s Small Catechism

Luther’s Small Catechism

Martin Luther put together a concise summary of the Christian doctrine as a resource for studying and praying at home. This is a great way to start a devotion or prayer practice, to ask questions about some of the things we profess or pray during our Sunday worship services, or to discuss with your family.

If you do not have a copy at your house, or you are not interested in a printed copy, you can download an app version that was developed by Augsburg Fortress.

The free app includes Luther’s Small Catechism and Catecismo Menor por Martin Lutero. Luther’s Small Catechism uses NRSV and Evangelical Lutheran Worship texts for the Ten Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, and Apostles’ Creed. Catecismo Menor por Martin Lutero is a translation into contemporary Spanish that is sensitive to texts used in Spanish liturgies, Bibles currently used in classrooms, and Luther’s German translation of biblical texts.

The Study Edition of the Small Catechism, available through an in-app purchase, includes worship rites, a revised introduction by Timothy Wengert, and new illustrations by Roman Catholic artist Gertrud Mueller Nelson. The app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
