Join Pastor Dave and Amanda Yannes for a Harry Potter themed VBS journey! This 6 part series is based on the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Lessons will be shared once a week for 6 weeks. Each lesson will include materials to do at home, including a time to read, as well as a time to gather via Zoom.

Why did we choose a Harry Potter theme? The author of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, explained after the last book came out that she intended all along to tell the story of Jesus through her books. She didn’t admit it from the start because she didn’t want to give the ending away. Authors like C.S. Lewis who retell the Jesus-story through fantasy say that people love to hear the story, over and over in different ways. Jesus himself relayed important truths through parables, and explained, “I tell stories to create readiness, to nudge the people toward receptive insight.” (Matthew 13, The Message Bible translation). Hopefully, the “parable” of Harry Potter will give us insight and help us understand God’s Word and the world more fully.
